Russia says IAEA resolution on Iran`s nuclear program is balanced

Moscow, Nov 30, IRNA -- Russian Deputy Foreign Minister for Disarmament Sergei Kissilyak said here Tuesday that the International Atomic Energy Agency`s (IAEA) resolution on Iran`s nuclear program is comprehensive and balanced. He told Interfax News Agency that the resolution also accurately reflects the true nature of the Iran`s nuclear activities. "Russia has always been in favor of close cooperation between Iran and the IAEA," he added. He also said that Russia welcomes Iran`s decision to suspend all uranium enrichment activities. This step by Iran is a voluntarily and is carried out for confidence building purposes and "we hope that he decision will be followed as is expected." He said Iran and IAEA cooperation is based on the Nuclear Non-Prolifiration`s (NPT) Additional Protocol which delineates all the guarantees by the nuclear watchdog agency and will be carried out by Tehran. "This steps by both sides will help to normalize the situation," he added. On Washington`s position on sending Iran nuclear dossier to the UN Security Council, he said "we believe that the issue should be resolved within the IAEA framework." "The current agreement and processes are adequate for resolution of the issue with the IAEA framework," he added. Russian President Vladimir Putin called here Thursday for the closing of the Iranian dossier at the IAEA and underlined Moscow`s continued support for the Islamic Republic`s peaceful nuclear programme. "We believe that a great progress has been achieved regarding removing the Iranian dossier and we will be negotiating with Iran on bilateral basis," Putin told a press conference in the Hague at the end of an EU-Russian summit Thursday afternoon. "We will be supporting them in developing nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and when final agreements would be concluded we intend to further develop that cooperation," he underlined. Putin said "we support and welcome the statements from Iran that they will suspend the production of fuel." "Today there was another announcement of the Iranian representatives on that score... and I think that all these problems will be addressed on the experts` level," Putin said.
