Rowhani: Europe, US disfavor Iran`s involvement in nuclear fuel cycle activities
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Nov 30, IRNA -- Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) secretary Hassan Rowhani said here Tuesday that Europe and the US both believe that Iran should not get involved in the nuclear fuel cycle activities. Addressing domestic and foreign reporters at a press briefing, he added that freezing of uranium enrichment process was even reflected in their first proposed draft resolution. "According to the Paris Agreement, EU3 has agreed to continue negotiating with Iran and recognize its right to access to nuclear technology if Iran undertakes not to deviate from the indicated fuel cycle. "Given that Europe has agreed to act within the framework of Paris Agreement and insists on its implementation, we should wait up to the next round of talks to see whether they will be honest," he added. Turning to Europe as Iran`s major trade partner, he said "though they have taken steps in our favor in some instances, occasionally they have opposed us under the US pressure." He hoped that the EU trio will approach the issue more honestly in the future. In response to a question wether Iran`s nuclear dossier has been removed from the International Atomic Energy Agency`s (IAEA) Board of Governors agenda, he replied that Iran`s case is no more an emergency and is about to be closed forever. "The IAEA chief Mohamed Elbaradei is expected to submit at least one more report on the issue to the nuclear watchdog, after which the final decision will be taken," he added. Underlining the significance of Paris Agreement, he said that final accord is expected to be reached with EU within 3-4 months, in which case Iran`s nuclear dossier will be closed. "However, if the negotiations fail to recognize our rights to the effect, we will proceed with our activities," he concluded. 2326/1412
