Rowhani says Iran`s nuclear case close to final settlement

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Nov 30, IRNA -- the secretary of Iran`s Supreme National
Security Council (SNSC) described the Monday resolution of the
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as the first test of the
Paris agreement.
Making the remarks in his Tuesday press conference attended by
over a hundred domestic and foreign media and press people, he
admitted that the resolution failed to meet all of Iran`s demands
mainly because of the US pressures and that the final draft did not
completely match with the Paris agreement.
However, he noted, the three big Europeans, while the resolution
was going through alterations, tried to remain faithful to their
commitments and act according to Iran`s desires.
He stressed that Iran would in no way forsake its rights and
acknowledgement of its rights which are considered as indispensable
under the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
He said no documents, guarantees and resolutions could ever
persuade Iran to ignore its legitimate and lawful right to gain
access to nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
Contrary to the US propaganda, he underscored, Iran has not
halted its fuel cycle and will never do that either.
"Iran is not afraid of the threats", the SNSC secretary added.
He also said that Tehran will never accept any documents
contradicting this right for Iran.
Rowhani further stressed that Iran has never been after
development of nuclear arms and said the political strategies as
well as religious ethics stop Tehran from pursuing such an objective.
Saying that Iran was not after producing mass killing weapons and
is faithful to the commitments it has made to the NPT, he stressed
that Tehran could face no problems in offering tangible guarantees for
the peaceful nature of its nuclear activities.
According to the SNSC official, the voluntary suspension of
nuclear activities and also implementation of the additional
protocol aimed at building trust in international community.
He said: "I want to make it clear that the suspension period
will only cover the time when negotiations are going on with Europe.
That`s all."
He believed the suspension period should sound logical and must
not take too long so that Iranians don`t feel that the negotiations
are a waste of time.
The suspension will be going on while the talks are underway and
if negotiations stop or fail then there will be no suspension,
Rowhani stressed.
Nevertheless, he noted, Iran is determined to go on with talks
with the IAEA and not to get fed up with them because it has benefited
from them to the day by proving to the world that Tehran is going
through the legal and peaceful passage and they are its foes who are
lying.
He pointed out that Iran`s enemies are saying Tehran has been
involved in secret activities for 20 years and said the industrial
countries are to be blamed for this which failed to fulfill their
commitments towards Iran.
"We have now proven that our enemies are liars and that Iran has
treading on a lawful and peace-loving path," he said.
The SNSC secretary went on to stress that Iran has adopted a
policy of entering into dialogues and developing trust and
understanding in its dealings with the world and said those who
believed one year ago that this policy could go nowhere are now
admitting that it has been a correct and right policy.
He further noticed that Iran was willing to cooperate with
Europe to reach a long-term agreement the first of which, to be
conducted between Iran and the European trio, Britain, Germany and
France, will begin within 15 days with an aim of getting a guarantee
from them for starting its peaceful nuclear activities as well as
its fuel cycle and enrichment activities and also to get a firm
promise from European industrial countries for nuclear cooperation.
He said following such a policy the IAEA board of governors was
persuaded to put Iran`s nuclear case out of its next meeting`s
agenda.
