Iran`s nuclear dossier on verge of closure: Rowhani
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Nov 30, IRNA -- The secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Hassan Rowhani, said here Tuesday that Iran`s nuclear dossier is on the verge of closure, stressing that the talks on its nuclear programs have been a great success. Talking to foreign and domestic reporters, Rowhani added that in light of Monday`s IAEA Board of Governors resolution, the Iran nuclear issue should no longer be a top issue of the agency. "The resolution explicitly states that Iran`s nuclear activities are peaceful and this affirmation is a great achievement for the country. "The new environment created for Iran is a turning point in the country`s nuclear case," he said. The SNSC secretary stressed that Monday`s IAEA resolution was a confirmation of Iranian officials` assertions that the country`s nuclear programs are for peaceful purposes. "After one year of regular inspections, this is the first time that International Atomic Energy Agency Director-General Mohamed ElBaradei and the Board of Governors has made a confirmation." Rowhani pointed out that Iran had always been emphasizing that all its nuclear activities are for peaceful purposes and the world should now notice that an international body has confirmed this matter. Shifting to allegations by Iran`s enemies that the country was developing a nuclear weapons program, he said the international community was quite convinced that Iranian officials were truthful when they said it had no plans to produce a nuclear bomb. Rowhani also highlighted Iran`s honest cooperation with the agency, and said that "although the IAEA director-general still insists that the two issues of pollution and the P2 have not been finalized, the report itself confirms Iran has fulfilled its duty and had a close and transparent cooperation over the past year." He added: "Both the resolution and the Board of Governors confirm that the suspension is not obligatory and legal for Iran." Iran`s pointman on nuclear issues stressed that the resolution explicitly mentions that suspension was not to be an obligation and legal duty for Iran but a voluntary and confidence-building measure. 2327/2321/1432
