Europe will not compromise on Iran`s demand: say diplomats
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Vienna, Nov 27, IRNA -- The IAEA diplomats said here Sunday that the Europeans will not compromise on Iran`s demand and urged Tehran to halt its nuclear activities including the 20 disputed centrifuges. The British Secretary of State Jack Straw and Iran`s top nuclear official Hassan Rowhani are negotiating the issue, according to the diplomats with the UN nuclear watchdog. A tough resolution would be on the table of the IAEA meeting if Iran keeps refusing to freeze all its nuclear activities related to uranium enrichment, a western diplomat told IRNA. According to the deal made on Friday by the EU trio and Iran, Iran had accepted to freeze the (20) centrifuges used for uranium enrichment, the diplomat added. The centrifuges, based on the deal between Iran and the IAEA, were not sealed by the nuclear agency but were controlled by special cameras, the diplomat said. The IAEA meeting in Vienna was adjourned due to disagreements until Monday. The diplomat stressed that Iran should take the opportunity resulting from the postponement of the meeting to officially announce the freezing of its nuclear activities namely the 20 centrifuges. Meanwhile, nuclear negotiations between Iran and the EU troika, France, Britain and Germany are going on. Spokeswoman for the IAEA Melissa Fleming here on Sunday refuted news that Iran-Europe talks had been halted, saying the talks are still continuing. Talking to IRNA, she termed reports by certain western media to this effect as unreal. 1405/1412
