IAEA discriminatory in approach towards Iran: Speaker
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Nov 28, IRNA -- Majlis Speaker Gholam Ali Haddad Adel said here Sunday that the International Atomic Energy Agency was discriminatory in its approach towards the nuclear cases of Iran and South Korea. Addressing a Majlis open session, Haddad Adel added that the IAEA`s discriminatory attitude toward the two states would damage its reputation. "It is not only surprising but disappointing that South Korea`s dossier was closed upon the United States` request but a resolution on Iran is discussed word for word," he said. He noted that the resolution proposed by the three European states to the IAEA Board of Governors has been amended for the second time and is still being discussed by Iran and European negotiators in Vienna. "Despite what came out of the Paris agreement and the minor changes made, signs of pressure and greed can be seen which run counter to the agency`s articles of association. "What is the use of the agency if it cannot defend the right of countries to conduct nuclear activities for peaceful ends as guaranteed in its articles?" The speaker further noted that the agency was established to provide supervision to countries that engage in nuclear activities and not to block countries from invoking the right to develop this superior source of energy. "Although the agency, through its director-general, has cleared Iran of any nuclear activity for military purposes, it continues to cast a suspicious eye on its nuclear activities and is obstructing its attempts to complete the fuel cycle. "This is not legal. It is a politically motivated move under pressure from the United States which is protecting Zionist interests. "Peace cannot be established in the world alongside discrimination and injustice. In today`s world, the United Nations and other international organizations are toys of the powers that be and are not able to defend laws. As a result, tensions will continue to increase. "Majlis insists on the country`s legal right to develop and use nuclear energy for peaceful aims while taking due cognizance of the concerns of European states and the IAEA," the speaker said. He insisted that it was the legal right of Iran to develop and use nuclear energy and that Tehran will not give up this right. Turning to another subject, he referred to a session of the headquarters for the fight against economic corruption held Wednesday (Nov 24) and said, "Majlis is determined to fulfill its duty and, toward this end, it will employ its twin tools of supervision and law-making. "Majlis is serious in its efforts to eradicate economic corruption through vigilance in law-making," he concluded. 2327/2321/1432
