Iran, Europe have reached new agreements: Moussavian
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Vienna, Nov 27, IRNA -- The spokesman of the Iranian delegation to the IAEA Board of Governors, Hossein Moussavian, said here on Friday evening that Iran and Europe have reached a new agreement. Mousavian, talking to reporters at the end of the sixth Iran-EU meeting, he added that European countries have prepared a third draft of a resolution on Iran`s nuclear programs that is more consistent with the Paris agreement. In the Paris agreement it was clear that suspension was a voluntary act and not a legal obligation, he said, adding that this point is now clearly stated in the EU`s third draft resolution. The matter of voluntary suspension was not mentioned in the first and second draft resolutions of the European bloc, he pointed out. The third draft also stresses the right of signatories to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) to develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposes, Mousavian added. He pointed out that the first European draft resolution contained some kind of a "trigger mechanism," that is, that if Iran did not fulfill its commitments regarding the issue of suspension its nuclear dossier would be referred to the UN Security Council, adding that the third draft has ommitted this provision. The new draft now stresses on inspection within the framework of the safeguards regime and Additional Protocol of the IAEA, Moussavian further said. It expressly provides that all IAEA activities with regard to Iran`s nuclear programs would be conducted within the framework of the safeguards provisions and Additional Protocol, he added. Mousavian also noted that the third draft very much stresses the Paris agreement. 1422/2321/1432
