Iran, EU clear main problems by agreeing on full implementation of Paris agreement: Mousavian
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Vienna, Nov 26, IRNA -- The spokesman of the Iranian delegation to the IAEA Board of Governors, Hossein Moussavian, said here on Friday that Iran and the European Union have settled their major problems by stressing on full implementation of the Paris agreement in the past few days. In an exclusive interview with IRNA, he stressed that major differences with the EU have been settled and that only minor changes needed to be made with respect to the European proposed draft on Iran`s nuclear programs. Iran-EU negotiations will be continuing until all minor differences will be settled, he reiterated. Both Iran and Europe believe that the resolution should be consistent with the Paris agreement, he said. The two sides also believe that based on the Paris agreement suspension would be a voluntary act and a confidence-building measure on the part of Iran he said, adding that when suspension is voluntary there is no legal obligation. "In our talks with the Europeans, we stressed that no open or hidden trigger mechanism should be incorporated in the resolution," he further added. He said that Tehran insisted that all future activities of the IAEA with regard to Iran`s nuclear acticities should be within the scope of the safeguards regime and Additional Protocol, and added that the European side has made the necessary changes to reflect this in their draft resolution. As to the matter of taking out Iran`s nuclear dossier from the agenda of the Board of Governors, he said the European Union was agreeable to the condition. The text of the draft resolution reflects Europe`s agreement and there is no dispute on the matter, Mousavian told the IRNA reporter. Iran wants its nuclear case to be taken out of the IAEA Board of Governor`s agenda after all ambiguities are settled in the ongoing negotiations. According to Mousavian, this should be mentioned in the director-general`s report after settlement of all ambiguities. "Our negotiations with the Europeans have to do with the text of the EU draft which should be worded in accordance with the Paris agreement, he said, expressing the hope that these negotiations would lead to a conclusive settlement of the issue. On the issue of centrifuges, Mousavian said it was not an important issue. "It is a technical issue which is under discussion with the IAEA," he added. The Islamic Republic of Iran has accepted suspension of uranium enrichment and all related activities and will not break its commitment, he concluded. 1422/2321/1432
