Iran has fulfilled its commitments on voluntary suspension of uranium enrichment: diplomat
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Vienna, Nov 24, IRNA -- An Iranian diplomat here Wednesday stressed that Iran has fulfilled its commitments regarding voluntary suspension of uranium enrichment. Such move by the Islamic Republic of Iran has been approved by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and other independent bodies, he told reporters on condition of anonymity. All centers, the activities of which should be suspended, have been sealed by the IAEA inspectors, he said adding that the IAEA will announce on Thursday that Iran has voluntarily suspended all related uranium enrichment activities. He further noted that the process of suspension of uranium enrichment which had started on November 22 under the supervision of the IAEA, has been approved by the agency today. The Iranian diplomat said, however, the suspension does not include Iran`s research activities as it has been mentioned in both, the IAEA previous resolution and the Paris agreement. According to those two documents, the Islamic Republic has the permission to continue its research activities, he noted. Therefore, Iran`s request for excluding few centrifuge apparatus being used for research activities under supervision of the IAEA from suspension is a natural demand, the diplomat said. Despite such a request by Iran, all centrifuge apparatus are under suspension, he added. In a letter to the IAEA, Tehran had earlier requested for excluding several centrifuge apparatus from suspension. The centrifuge apparatus are used by Iran for research studies. The Islamic Republic of Iran has stressed that such activities will be made under IAEA supervision and without injecting nuclear substances. 1422/2322/1432
