Majlis expects EU, IAEA to prove commitments: Haddad Adel
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Nov 24, IRNA -- Majlis Speaker Gholam Ali Haddad Adel said here Wednesday that the parliament expects the International Atomic Energy Agency and the European Union to show proof that they will honor their commitments when the IAEA Board of Governors meets on Thursday. "Otherwise, Majlis will prod the government to resume enrichment," he said as he addressed an open session of Majlis. Referring to the draft resolution prepared by the European Big 3 (Britain, France and Germany) on Iran`s nuclear program that is to be presented in the meeting Thursday, he said: "Although we cannot now judge what will come out of the IAEA meeting as we do not know what will finally be approved, Majlis, the government and Iranian nation look to the IAEA Board of Governors meeting as an opportunity to test the Europeans in their commitments." "We are waiting to see what decision the IAEA will make in the meeting. We will see if it will be a decision on legal grounds or a political one under US pressure that will have the effect of fanning their strategy of creating hegemony and chaos." Haddah Adel stressed the country`s position on the nuclear standoff: "We announced enrichment suspension officially and voluntarily and will continue it for as long as it has a guaranteed return. But suspension cannot and should not be forever." He reiterated Iran`s right to the "peaceful pursuit of nuclear technology" which, he said, Majlis, government and the entire system believe is guaranteed under the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). 2327/2321/1432
