Iran to suspend production at UCF of Isfahan, Natanz voluntarily: Aqazadeh

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Nov 21, IRNA -- Head of Iran`s Atomic Energy Organization
Gholam-Reza Aqazadeh said here Sunday that Iran is to suspend Uranium
activities of the Conversion Facility (UCF) of Isfahan and Natanz
voluntarily based on an agreement reached with the European trio of
Britain, Germany and France.
Talking to reporters after a meeting with a four-member delegation
representing the Non-Aligned states in the IAEA Board of Governors, he
rejected claims on accelerating enrichment activities by Iran before
November 22.
"The Isfahan plant has a specified capacity and cannot operate
beyond what has been planned.
"The plant has no enrichment activity. Raw materials are just
processed there and it has started activities in this field since a
few months ago"
The IAEO head rejected claims on Iran`s activities in a hidden
site in northeast of Tehran, saying "There is no place which Iran
tries to hide it. We deny such claims."
He stressed that Iran provided grounds for IAEA inspectors to
visit any site anywhere.
Aqazadeh said the United States and certain groups usually make
propaganda against Iran on the eve of the Board of Governor`s
meetings.
Asked whether Iran has suspended production of UF6 (uranium
hexafluoride), he added such activities are among the output of
Isfahan which is expected to be suspended Monday.
He pointed to the outlook of Iran-Europe talks, stressing "I
believe we will have very hard talks with the Europeans in the
future."
He cited Iran`s confidence-building as the main demand of the
Europeans while Iran seeks continuation of peaceful nuclear
activities.
"Iran has carried out whatever required for confidence-building so
far.
"A country that implements the additional protocol (to the
nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty) and cameras and inspectors of the
IAEA supervise its activities, builds most confidence in the world,"
the official further stated.
He reiterated, "I believe Iran`s Atomic Energy Organization has
carried out whatever measures required for confidence-building. The
Europeans should announce what they expect beyond implementation of
the additional protocol and what has been specified in the IAEA."
Iran and Europe agreed to make effective progress within the next
three months, Aqazadeh said, adding such progress should be made in
the issues of mutual concern.
Representatives of Cuba, Algeria, South Africa and Malaysia along
with IAEA inspectors, who are currently in Iran, on Saturday inspected
various parts of uranium processing installations in Isfahan.
The visitors also inspected cameras installed by the IAEA to
monitor the activities of the center.
Non-Aligned Movement members of the IAEA Board of Governors have
constantly supported Iran`s positions over its nuclear case and
demanded that the case should be dealt with through a normal
procedure.
The center is located at nine kilometers to the south of Isfahan.
