Asefi: Iran to begin suspension of uranium enrichment tomorrow

Tehran, Nov 21, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi 
said here Sunday that Iran will suspend uranium enrichment activities 
starting Monday, November 22. 
Speaking at his weekly press briefing, he said: "We have said 
that we will suspend our enrichment activities and we will do it." 
"What we have been doing over the past few days is in conformity 
with the Paris agreement and is under supervision by the International
Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)," he added. 
There are no hidden nuclear installations in Iran that would 
give rise to the suspicion that Iran is developing nuclear weapons as 
these are not in the Islamic Republic of Iran`s defense doctrine, 
he reiterated. 
"If we had such a policy, we would have surely announced it as 
we did with out Shahab 3 missiles," he added. 
"In today`s world, nothing can be hidden from the media and the 
public in general, and when we say we do not have nuclear weapons 
facilities we mean just that," Asefi said. 
In a deal clinched a week ago with Britain, France and Germany, 
Iran agreed to freeze as of tomorrow all its uranium enrichment 
activities as a confidence-building measure and to preclude a possible
referral of its case to the UN Security Council. 
Meanwhile, referring to the massacre of thousands of people in 
the Iraqi city of Falluja, he said the crimes being committed there 
are unprecedented. 
What is tragic is that the crimes are being justified under the 
pretext of capturing some terrorists in the area, he added. 
As to the baseless claims made by the US authorities that Iran is 
the source of the continuing insecurity in Iraq, Asefi said such 
accusation is a result of its weakness and failure to establish 
security in that war-torn country. 
"All western countries consider Washington as the source of 
insecurity in Iraq," he added. 
He said Iran has repeatedly announced that its nuclear program is 
a strictly peaceful effort to general electricity for civilian needs. 
Britain, France and Germany have wrapped up the first draft of a 
resolution on Iran`s nuclear program that is to be presented to the 
IAEA`s 35-nation Board of Governors when it meets in Vienna on 
Thursday.
