British minister satisfied with recent Iran-EU agreement

London, Nov 18, IRNA -- British Foreign Office Minister for the Middle East Baroness Symons here Wednesday expressed her satisfaction with signing the recent agreement between Iran and the European big trio on Iran`s nuclear programs. "We believe that the time is ripe for implementation of the agreement," she told the visiting Iranian Minister of Industries and Mines, Es`haq Jahangiri. She referred to the agreement as an appropriate ground for confidence-building between the two sides and underlined the need to begin Iran-EU economic negotiations as soon as possible. "We are interested in maintaining the current friendly atmosphere and making decisions on the basis of the current situation," she reiterated. The British private sector is very much interested in bilateral cooperation with Iran, she said, adding that London will definitely support Iran`s membership at the World Trade Organization (WTO) during the upcoming meeting of its general council. Supporting Iran`s membership at WTO is a commitment of Britain, France and Germany towards Iran according to the Paris nuclear agreement. For his part, the Iranian minister expressed his satisfaction with inking the recent agreement with the European Union and called on the European side to materialize their commitments as soon as possible. Timely measures to be taken by the British government will help confidence building in bilateral cooperation, he added. Referring to the existing obstacles in the way of expansion of Tehran-London trade cooperation, Jahangiri called for political support for economic participation and making investment in Iran by British companies. Jahangiri, heading a 25-man economic delegation, arrived here Tuesday afternoon on a four-day visit. Jahangiri`s visit is taking place at the official invitation of British Trade Secretary Patricia Hewitt. Jahangiri is to review issues of mutual interest with several British economic officials. He is also to meet British tradesmen and Iranian investors and businessmen residing in Britain. The Iranian minister also attended a one-day conference entitled `Fueling Economic Growth in Iran` in London on Wednesday. 1422/1432
