IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Nov 15, IRNA -- Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Hassan Rowhani here on Monday attended a press conference on the recent agreement between Iran and the European Union on Iran`s nuclear program. In response to a question posed on whether he is optimistic about the future of these negotiations, Rowhani said when the negotiations are serious and genuine it will not result in failure. "The Europeans call on us to continue the enrichment process in a way not to lead to the production of nuclear weapons, this is not a complicated issue, we call on the IAEA as well as the Non-Aligned movement to assure the global community that this will be guaranteed," he underlined. "It is not possible to judge whether these negotiations will result to failure or not," he said adding that it is quite evident that there is no major obstacle on the way. In response to a question posed by Al-Jazeera TV network about whether the US is the main and back room power for such negotiations, he said the US as the main power that has created many problems up to now and it is them who has always prevented the issue from being resolved. "We should exercise vigilance to see what would be US reactions to the issue," he said adding that as a first move, President Bush has not shown any negative reaction. "We have to wait and see whether in the upcoming IAEA Board of Governors there would be any under-the-table dealings between the US and the Europeans or the Europeans have entered the negotiations with sincerity," he said. "In my opinion, President Bush should adopt a different attitude in his second term of his presidency," he said. On issues of Iraq, he said the agreement proves that the Europeans believe in close cooperation with Iran in reconstruction of war shattered country despite of all allegation against Iran, the Europeans believe Iran can play a positive role in the future of Iraq. Both Iran and Europe agreed to closely cooperate in campaign against terrorism, he said. 1430/2322/1432
