Rowhani elaborates on Iran-EU agreement on nuclear program
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Nov 15, IRNA -- Secretary of Iran`s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Hassan Rowhani said on Monday that the Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to apply nuclear energy for civilian purposes. Speaking to reporters, he said in the new agreement Iran signed with European Union trio (France, Britain and Germany) representatives there is no word of "indefinite suspension" of uranium enrichment. `Uranium enrichment` is Iran`s red lines on nuclear issues, he said adding that "We had insisted for many times that it is our legitimate right and Iran cannot relinquish it." "There is no word of stoppage. Iran agreed the `voluntary suspension`," he said. He expressed the hope that Iran`s nuclear dossier to pass its normal trend in the upcoming IAEA Board session of November 25. He said the Europeans have explicitly declared that suspension of uranium is a voluntary measure by the Islamic Republic of Iran aiming to build further confidence. "We have always underlined over voluntary suspension so it is not compulsory and the European have made it clear in the agreement," he said. On suspension of uranium for confidence-building, he said under the new agreement the Islamic Republic of Iran gave guarantees that its nuclear activities are merely of peaceful nature. Iran never sought access to nuclear weapon, he said adding that the agreement has made it clear that the uranium enrichment to be conducted based on IAEA safeguards and supervision. "We guarantee that the level of enrichment will only meet our required fuel," he said. In the final agreement, the long-term interests of Iranian nation as well as the interests of Europe should be met, he said. The two sides agreed on extensive cooperation between Iran and Europe in the future, Rowhani added. "Fortunately the agreement has paid due attention to what has been considered as Iran`s red lines," he pointed out. Iran has several times underlined that any agreement should observe the legitimate right of the country, he said adding that the Europeans have recognized the legitimate rights of the Islamic Republic of Iran and have confirmed that they will observe the right identical with other countries and without any discrimination. The agreement underlined that the nuclear and security issues and trade should be discussed by the two parties and envisaged to set up three working groups to focus on nuclear issues, security issues and economic cooperation to hold meetings every three months, he said. The Islamic Republic of Iran is to continue suspension of uranium until the end of negotiations, he said. 1430/1416
