Iran agrees to suspend all uranium enrichment activities
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Nov 15, Kyodo/IRNA -- Iran promised Sunday to suspend all uranium enrichment activities in an agreement concluded the same day with Britain, France and Germany, officials said. Iranian government officials said the agreement covers all enrichment-related operations, including the production of centrifuge devices, a key step in the manufacture of weapons-grade uranium. The Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency is scheduled to meet on November 25. Sunday`s agreement will most likely avert a possible IAEA decision to refer the Iranian nuclear issue to the UN Security Council. Hassan Rohani, Iran`s top official for nuclear policy, met with the ambassadors of the three European countries on Sunday. According to Reuters news agency, Rohani said the freeze on the Iranian nuclear program would remain in place as long as the negotiation process continues with the three European powers. Tehran has confirmed the agreement with the IAEA, Rohani has reportedly said. Britain, France and Germany had offered to help Iran build light water nuclear reactors for power generation in exchange for a total freeze of its uranium enrichment activities. Experts from the two sides reached a provisional agreement on the Iran nuclear issue during two days of talks in Paris on Nov. 5-6. A formal agreement came after the two sides ironed out differences on the scope of the nuclear freeze and how long it would last. /2321/1432
