Iranian diplomat says Tehran has reached agreement with EU on nuclear issue

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Vienna, Nov 14, IRNA -- A senior Iranian diplomat said here Sunday
night that Iran has reached an agreement with the European Union to
suspend its uranium enrichment activities ending the deadlock caused
by US charges it is secretly pursuing a nuclear weapons program.
The diplomat, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told IRNA
that the agreement was reached after four days of intensive
negotiations.
The agreement incorporates both Iran`s demands and conditions as
well as the expectations of the international community, he added.
According to the diplomat, details of the agreement will be
announced by a top Iranian official soon.
Earlier, a European diplomat had told IRNA in Vienna that several
rounds of intensive talks between Iran and Europe on the issue of
"duration" and "scope" of uranium enrichment by Iran had finally
brought the parties to an agreement.
He said Iran has agreed to suspend its uranium enrichment
activities as a confidence-building gesture and accept Europe`s
offer of incentives in return.
He said he had no knowledge as to the matter of duration agreed
upon for suspension but said details of the agreement will be
announced later.
Up until this agreement, Iran had insisted that it would not
abandon its legal right to pursue uranium enrichment activities and
completion of the fuel cycle.
During earlier negotiations, it said it would agree only to a
limited duration for suspension of its nuclear activities on a
voluntary basis to promote trust between Tehran and the international
community.
Tehran`s agreement to fully suspend uranium enrichment has been
confirmed in a letter sent by Tehran to IAEA Director-General
ElBaradei.
According to Tehran, the ball is now with the European Big 3 and,
in particular with IAEA Director-General ElBaradei, to logically
push for the closure of the Iranian nuclear dossier when the Board of
Governors meets on November 25.
