Rafsanjani says way open for Europeans to come to an agreement with Iran on nuke issue

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Nov 12, IRNA -- Tehran`s substitute Friday Prayer leader
Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani stressed here that the way is open for
the European Union to reach an agreement with Iran on the nuclear
issue if its representatives act more rationally and stop being too
demanding.
He made the remark during his second sermon in today`s Friday
Prayers which was attended by tens of thousands of people who had
earlier participated in rallies marking International Qods Day.
He expressed delight over the fact that talks on the Iran nuclear
issue were proceeding forward step by step, making Iran only one or
two steps away from its desired result.
Criticizing the big powers for trying to deny smaller states
the right to exploit scientific findings and results of research
work to advance their interests, he said these powers will ultimately
bow down to the demands of these smaller states.
Rafsanjani advised big powers to be realistic about the issue and
make sensible decisions before it is too late to prevent other
nations, who are determined to pay whatever its costs, from achieving
scientific progress.
Criticizing the highly polarized political situation inside the
country, the substitute Firday Prayer leader said the clash in ideas
and attitudes was a growing concern of the country. He exprssed the
hope such incidents as that which occurred in Elm-o San`at University
would never be repeated.
Turning to the Iraqi issue, he said that the actions of US forces
in Fallujah and Mosul prove the depth of their hatred and the extent
to which they are willing to go to achieve their objectives in Iraq.
The crimes America is committing in Iraq are the necessary
outcome of their objectives in coming to Iraq, he added.
Rafsanjani took the opportunity to congratulate the Muslim ummah
on the auspicious Eid ul-Fitr, which marks end of the holy fasting
month of Ramadan.
