Diplomats say Iran might adopt harsher position on nuclear issue

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Vienna, Nov 11, IRNA -- Diplomats in Vienna say Iran is going to
adopt harsher positions in reaction to proposals of the European
trio regarding its nuclear activities.
One diplomat from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)
told reporters on Thursday that Iran has refused to respond
affirmatively to the proposal of three European Countries namely
Germany, France and Britain on indefinite suspension of its uranium
enrichment activities, thus giving rise to doubts as to reaching an
agreement.
Iran was supposed to announce its final decision to the European
trio on Wednesday.
Based on what Iran has been telling the IAEA, the diplomats, who
usually prefer to speak on condition of anonymity, say that Tehran
has called for more incentives in return for suspending uranium
enrichment process.
Iran has told the three European states that making use of
nuclear technology for peaceful purposes is its legitimate right
which is not to be forsaken.
The Iranian officials have also voiced readiness for voluntary
suspension of the uranium enrichment activities in a bid to promote
trust-building process but have at the same time stressed that they
are not going to completely stop it in any way.
An Iranian diplomat, talking to IRNA Thursday, said he was unaware
of any fresh proposals on the part of Iran.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has repeatedly stressed that its
nuclear activities are for peaceful purposes. The claim has been
substantiated by numerous IAEA investigation visits to Iranian
nuclear sites so far.
