UK considering provisional agreement on Iran`s nuclear program

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

London, Nov 8, IRNA -- The British government Monday confirmed
that it was considering the provisional agreement reached with Germany
and France in talks with Iran on its nuclear program.
"Tehran as well as London, Paris and Berlin are looking at in
more detail," a spokesman for the Foreign Office in London told
IRNA.
The provisional agreement reached in Paris is reported to include
political, economic, security and technological cooperation and is
expected to pave the way for the European Union to restart
negotiations on a trade agreement with Iran.
In return for access to nuclear technology, Iran is being asked
to suspend activities related to the enrichment of uranium until a
long-term agreement is reached.
But the Foreign Office spokesman was reluctant to talk about what
was being put on the table. He said the British government was
"waiting until the four capitals to reflect and consider" the
provisional agreement.
He said he had "no details at all" and also declined to say
whether there was any optimism about the negotiations on the deal
that started three weeks ago following the initiative from the so-
called EU3 after last month`s G8 meeting in Washington.
The spokesman also said that he did not know if the proposals
would be discussed by Prime Minister Tony Blair, when he becomes the
first western leader to meet US President George W Bush following
his re-election for a second term.
The British press has expressed skepticism if the US will ever
accept a diplomatic agreement on Iran`s nuclear program. The issue
is seen as Bush`s first test case on whether he will become more
committed to multilateral cooperation.
