ElBaradei hopes Iran-EU agreement will include suspension of enrichment process

Vienna, Nov 8, IRNA -- The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief Mohammad ElBaradei here Monday hoped that suspension of uranium enrichment will be included in the preliminary Iran-EU agreement. The concerned officials from Iran and the EU trio announced that in the two-day Paris meeting a preliminary accord was reached to this end which should be approved by the senior officials of the four countries. According to an IAEA report, speaking to reporters in the Australian city of Sidney on November 8, he said, "Despite high hopes about the outcome of the negotiations, the details of the agreements cannot yet be confirmed. "I have been told that the agreement was experimental and preliminary. Besides it has not yet been finalized. Therefore, we should be cautious and not too optimistic on the expected outcome." The IAEA chief expressed hope that the preliminary agreement will include suspension of enrichment process to prove Iran`s good understanding. "The international community expects Iran to stop its uranium enrichment process to attract the world confidence," added ElBaradei. He further hoped to witness the desired outcome, namely end of all the operations associated with uranium enrichment process to facilitate normalization of ties between Iran and the international community. Turning to inspection of Iran`s nuclear installations by the UN nuclear watchdog in the past two years, he said that the trend will continue. Concerning his next report due to be submitted to the IAEA board of governors at the meeting of November 25, he noted that it will deal with Iran`s abidance by legal agreements and the issue of confidence-building.
