Majlis approves outlines of bill on peaceful nuclear technology

Tehran, Oct 31, IRNA -- Majlis on Sunday approved with a strong majority the outlines of the bill on gaining access to nuclear technology for peaceful purposes. Once finally approved, the bill will urge the government to utilize scientists, researchers and facilities to follow up its commitments to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and also towards the countries enjoying this technology that are members of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) in regards to country`s access to nuclear technology for peaceful purposes including providing the fuel circle. Majlis Speaker Gholam Ali Haddad Adel in his remarks in today`s open session pointed out that the parliament in Iran was in fact the voice of the nation and went on to stress that the Majlis would never yield to pressures. He said the Iranian nation insists on having its voice heard by the world and at the same time persists on safeguarding its national interests and also its right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes. He underlined that the parliament is determined to support the efforts of young Iranian scientists who are working for progress of the country and to safeguard national interests. The bill on gaining access to nuclear technology for peaceful purposes was discussed in Majlis open session today following the request of 50 MPs from the Presiding Board to focus on it as an emergency bill. 238 members of the 290-seat parliament voted in favor of the bill. 1424/1432
