Iran hopes Europe will show more flexibility in next talks
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Oct 31, IRNA -- Iran`s Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi said here Sunday that Iran hopes that Europe would show more flexibility in its upcoming talks with Tehran in order to reach an ideal conclusion. According to the spokesman the talks are likely to be held in Paris next Friday. At his weekly press briefing, Asefi told reporters that taking a voluntary action for confidence-building was what the Europe`s big three (Britain, Germany and France) have expected from Iran to do. He further noted that Tehran was, instead, expecting Europe to make it clear what it was planning to do regarding the Islamic Republic. Stressing that Iran was not a country to be threatened by "punitive measures", Asefi expressed hope that in their next round of talks with Iran, the Europeans would make decisions on the basis of "existing realities and Iran`s true and legitimate expectations." The spokesman added that Iran will introduce its expectations in Friday`s talks in order to reach a final agreement with the Europeans. He noted that setting up a timetable for Tehran`s cooperation with Europe (regarding the nuclear issue) was one of those expectations that will insistently be mentioned by Iran in Friday`s meeting. He further stated that experts of the two sides have been working on a joint compromise plan that would be offered to their political officials. The spokesman also noted that Tehran would make a decision which would serve its interests best. He added that there is still room to reach an agreement but more talks are needed yet. 1394/1432
