EU hopes to reach agreement with Iran on nuclear issue

Brussels, Oct 25, IRNA -- The current President of the European Union Council of Ministers, Dutch Foreign Minister Bernard Bot, Monday said that the European bloc recognizes the right of countries to benefit from a peaceful nuclear program. Bot, in a meeting with Iran`s new Ambassador to Brussels, Ali Ahani, hoped that the EU and Iran with the continuation of talks in Vienna would reach a mutual useful and satisfactory result that will open the way for strengthening and expansion of bilateral cooperation. Earlier, Ahani presented his credentials to Bot as the Netherlands holds the current EU Presidency, Iranian diplomatic sources told IRNA. On his part, Ahani noting the importance of EU-Iran relations said there was ample opportunity for boosting of bilateral cooperation on the basis of mutual respect and common interests. The Iranian envoy underlined Iran`s transparent and peaceful nuclear program and said the recent EU proposals are currently being studied in Tehran and a reply will soon be given. Regional developments, the situation in Iraq and the upcoming international conference on Iraq in Egypt were also discussed in the meeting. NK/1412
