Iran-Europe dialogue, best way to achieve consent: IAEA

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Vienna, Oct 25, IRNA -- Spokeswoman of the International Atomic
Energy Agency (IAEA) Melissa Fleming said here on Monday that the
agency considers dialogue between Iran and the European trio as the
best possible way to achieve a consent on Iran`s nuclear activities.
Talking to IRNA, she welcomed holding of the last week meeting of
Iran and the three European states (Britain, France and Germany).
She added that the representatives of the European trio and Iran
to the meeting have separately provided the IAEA Chief, Mohamed
ElBaradei, with reports on the outcome of the meeting.
Ms Fleming further reiterated that the IAEA welcomes dialogue
between Iran and the European states.
She also announced that another group of IAEA inspectors is to
arrive in Iran prior to the November 25 session of the IAEA Board
of Governors.
The IAEA inspectors have so far inspected Iran`s nuclear
installations for some 50 times.
The first round of talks between Iran and the European trio was
held here last Thursday afternoon and the second round is to be held
on Wednesday.
Senior officials from the European trio and their Iranian
counterparts, after three hours of talks behind the closed doors,
agreed to continue their dialogue on Tehran`s nuclear programs.
"Both sides agreed to pursue the talks and hold meetings before
November 25," Sirous Nasseri, a member of the Iranian delegation at
the meeting told IRNA.
During the meeting, Iran presented its offer and also received the
offer jointly suggested by the three European states, he added.
Meanwhile, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi Sunday
termed the proposals suggested by the European countries to Iran on
the country`s nuclear activities as "unbalanced".
Addressing his weekly press briefing, he said the Europeans`
proposals were preliminary proposals and not final ones.
Asefi said the next round of talks between the two sides will be
held on Wednesday, in which Iran will present its own proposals, while
continue to consider the Europeans` proposals.
"We must reach a median solution which removes the Europeans`
concerns -- if there is any -- and recognize our rights in the
framework of the NPT (nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty)," he said.
Asefi, however, rejected the European Union`s demand that Tehran
suspend all activities related to uranium enrichment for good.
"The question is not to permanently suspend uranium enrichment and
the Europeans` proposal itself points to unlimited suspension until an
agreement is reached," he said.
"This is not acceptable by the Islamic Republic since Iran`s
suspension of enrichment has been voluntary and temporary to promote
confidence building," he added.
In a decision to prove its good faith, Tehran has voluntarily
suspended uranium enrichment and manufacture of centrifuge components.
