Iran criticizesEU nuclear proposal as `unbalanced`
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Dubai, Oct 24, Kyodo/OANA/IRNA -- Iran on Sunday criticized a European proposal seeking the in definite suspension of its uranium enrichment activities as `unbalanced`, indicating that it intends to reject the proposal. "The EU proposal is unbalanced ... an indefinite uranium suspension is unacceptable for Iran," Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi told a news conference. The proposal by Britain, Germany and France on Thursday offered Iran civilian nuclear technology and a trade deal in return for giving up uranium enrichment. There are growing concerns that uranium enrichment on the part of oil-rich Iran may be part of a program to develop nuclear weapons. Iran has denied the allegations and said its nuclear program is only to generate power. However, Asefi appeared to leave open the possibility of an agreement, saying the Europeans `have chosen the correct path of dialogue`. "We view the European offer as a preliminary proposal, not a final one," he added. Talks between Iran and the three European powers will resume on Wednesday, he said. /2322/1432
