Khatami stresses Iran`s peaceful nuclear activities

Tehran, Oct 20, IRNA -- President Mohammad Khatami here Wednesday stressed the peaceful nature of Iran`s nuclear activities, saying Iran`s nuclear program is completely transparent. Talking to reporters after a cabinet session, Khatami reiterated Iran`s readiness for cooperation with the world and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). "We do not act against the law. We try to build confidence and prove that Iran`s (nuclear) activities would not lead to nuclear weapons since we are certain (about our plans)," he said. He added that Iran`s right for getting access to peaceful nuclear technology should be recognized officially, saying "I do not know the European`s offer yet but, as I have repeatedly said, we are ready for talks and understanding. "No one should deprive Iran of access to peaceful nuclear technology under the supervision of the IAEA." "We will offer the agency any guarantee that Iran will never take steps towards nuclear weapons," the president stated. Shifting to the great pressure heaped on Iran for its peaceful nuclear program, the president asked, "Why is Iran in the spotlight while it has not yet fully acquired the nuclear technology but those countries which possess atomic bomb and arsenal cause no concern?"
