Iran plans to have independent nuclear technology

Tehran, Oct 7, IRNA -- Expediency Council Chairman Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said on Thursday that despite the opposition of the U.S and Europe, Iran plans to have independent nuclear technology. He made the remarks in a question/answer meeting at the 20th conference of preachers from various seminaries. In response to a question posed on Iran`s nuclear issue, Rafsanjani said that it was the Iranian nation`s legitimate right to have nuclear technology. "Preserving this technology calls for utmost efforts," he said, hoping that Iran would achieve its legal rights. He said that a nation ready for any sacrifices would certainly be successful. Asked on his possible participation in presidential election, Rafsanjani said that he preferred to support another candidate. "If I see no other choice, I will not refrain from doing my best to preserve the interests of Islam and revolution," he added. The EC chairman further said that the issue of inflation has been taken into consideration, adding EC has prepared plans to solve this issue. He said that Iran was trying to attain economic development and increase production. "Boosting production and attaining economic development will resolve the issue of inflation." In response to another question on the current programs of seminaries, he said that the ongoing plans were not sufficient, adding "We have a lot of questions that have to be answered in this regard. "Seminaries should response to all the questions and needs of society," he added. 2331/1412
