Government spokesman: Iran having no plan to quit NPT

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Sept 27, IRNA -- Government spokesman Abdollah Ramezanzadeh
here Monday said that Iran does not intend to quit the International
Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Speaking to reporters at his weakly briefing, the spokesman added
that despite the ongoing remarks, leaving NPT is not yet on the
government`s agenda.
Concerning the measures taken by the Presidential Committee on
assessment of the government`s approach towards cinematographers and
those launching Internet websites, he said that the committee`s
relevant reports have not yet been examined by the cabinet.
On Iran`s participation in the meeting to be held in support of
Iraq`s future elections, he said that Iran fully approves of any
measure towards free election in the neighboring country to expedite
return of national sovereignty to the Iraqi people.
"However, no decision has yet been made about attending such a
meeting," he added.
Turning to the changes made in the upcoming fourth development
plan (2005-2010) by Majlis, he hoped that the government`s original
draft on the issue will be maintained after the changes effected in
it.
"To materialize the economic growth rate of 8.6 percent as
predicted in the fourth development plan, in addition to attracting
domestic funds, foreign investment will also be required.
"Given that the related bill has been arranged in line with a
20-year vision plan, the failure of the fourth development plan will
face us with great difficulties," he added.
Ramezanzadeh referred to the illegal gathering of a selected
number of individuals on Sunday night and said that the police took
proper measures.
Terming it as an insignificant move, he said that those
intending to enter into political activities should act within the
framework of national laws.
