Iran not going to develop nuclear weapons - diplomat

Moscow, Sept 22, Itar-Tass/ACSNA/IRNA -- Iran is not going to develop nuclear weapons, said Vahid Ahmadi, a director general at the Iranian Foreign Ministry. "There is no place for nuclear weapons in the defense doctrine of Iran," he said in an interview with Itar-Tass on Wednesday. The diplomat stressed that Iran `solves tasks of the peaceful use of nuclear technologies`. "The tension fuel led by some forces around our plans in this sphere is absolutely unfounded, and the claims that a re-spread do not correspond to reality," he said. Ahmadi added that `not only Iran but any other state has the right for the use of atom in peaceful purposes`. "Iran develops nuclear technologies only for peaceful purposes, and we have an understanding with Russia in this regard," he stressed. Ahmadi expressed hope that the sides `will adhere to all provisions of the documents on cooperation already signed between Moscow and Tehran`. /2322/1432
