IAEA resolution not to affect pace of construction at Bushehr
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Vienna, Sept 22, Itar-Tass/ACSNA/IRNA -- The latest resolution of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Iran will not affect the pace of construction of the nuclear power station at Bushehr, Alexander Rumyantsev, the head of Russia`s federal agency for nuclear energy said here on Tuesday. He said the essence of the resolution is that the IAEA director- general is to give a report on the state of Iran`s nuclear program by the November session of the Board of Governors. The report will be based on the information of international inspectors and on the accounts of the Iran Atomic Energy Organization. Rumyantsev said the nuclear power station under construction at Bushehr is a project of bilateral cooperation and adheres to all norms of international law and IAEA safeguards on nuclear weapons non-proliferation. Iranian Vice-President Gholam Reza Aghazadeh, the head of the Iran Atomic Energy Organization, expressed a similar view here on Tuesday. He said the construction at Bushehr, where nearly 1,000 Russian specialists are employed, is in full swing and the project is over 80 percent completed. The delay in coming up with an ultimate arrangement on the delivery of nuclear fuel and return of spent nuclear fuel is due only to technical and financial reasons and is in no way connected with the requirements set forth in the resolution approved by the IAEA Board of Governors. The Iranian official said a ranking Russian delegation will shortly visit Iran. All necessary documents will be signed during his visit, he added. /2321/1432
