ElBaradei underlines expansion of Iran-IAEA cooperation

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Vienna, Sept 21, IRNA -- Iran`s Vice-President and Head of Iran`s
Atomic Energy Organization Gholam-Reza Aqazadeh conferred here Tuesday
with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency
(IAEA) Mohamed ElBaradei on expansion of cooperation between the two
sides.
At the meeting, ElBaradei said "The Islamic Republic of Iran and
IAEA have made a very good progress in mutual cooperation."
In the meeting held on the sidelines of the IAEA conference in
Vienna, ElBaradei said the only remaining issues between the two
sides were contaminated nuclear parts and uranium enrichment.
On contamination parts, he said "Our colleagues are to
obtain more information through third countries and we should
seriously try to provide the IAEA with suitable reports by November."
The head of Iran`s Atomic Energy Organization, for his part,
said the Islamic Republic of Iran will do its best to cooperate with
IAEA in a bid to solve the issue.
Iran has made significant efforts to remove all existing
ambiguities, he underlined.
Iran and IAEA should try to solve the remaining issues as soon as
possible, he said.
Calling the recent statement released by IAEA board of governors
as "harsh and illogical", he said the Islamic Republic of Iran expects
the IAEA to differentiate between voluntary measures and NPT
obligations.
He called on the IAEA chief to differentiate between Iran`s
cooperation with IAEA and political issues.
On suspension of uranium enrichment, he said the Islamic Republic
of Iran has always acted voluntarily and never accepted the
ratification made by IAEA board of governors and it is quite clear
that the country is not to follow the recent statement issued by the
IAEA board of governor.
He expressed regret over the recent stances taken by European
countries that failed to create suitable grounds for continuation
uranium enrichment suspension.
"Majlis which is manifestation of public opinion in our country,
has recently expressed its protest to IAEA ratification as well as the
illogical stances of the Europeans and this is very important and
for our country," he said.
