MP says Iran has had good cooperation with IAEA

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Sept 19, IRNA -- Head of Majlis National Security and Foreign
Policy Commission said here Sunday that Iran has carried out its
commitments within the framework of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT)
and has had good cooperation with the International Atomic Energy
Agency (IAEA).
Aladdin Boroujerdi said resolution by the IAEA Board of Governors
cast doubts over the IAEA Secretary General Mohammad Elbaradei
"because the resolution was in contrast to the spirit of NPT."
"If the Board of Directors, which is being pressured by the US,
continues its policies, then Iran will have no choice but to opt for
new policies.
Iran will not compromise with anybody on the people`s legitimate
rights," he warned.
"There is no logic at suggestion that Iran should suspend all its
nuclear activities and we are of the belief that we have had effective
operation the nuclear watchdog agency.
Iran has pursued confidence building measures while the country`s
doors have been open to the IAEA inspectors," Boroujerdi underlined
Our contacts with Europe should definitely continue while
concurrently, we should pursue our peaceful nuclear program, the MP
said.
On the manner of dialogue with the European trio of France,
Britain and Germany, he added "we act within the framework of our
national interests and our relations with the Europeans is not in the
same vain as our relations with the US."
However, the Europeans have shown contradictory behavior, he
added.
The IAEA Governing Board has accepted the fact that we have
respected and abided by all the International norms and regulation and
three have been no restriction on the IAEA inspectors performing their
task in the country.
The resumption of the uranium enrichment process is on the Majlis
National Security and Foreign Policy Commission`s Tuesday agenda and
if approved, it will be forwarded to the parliament`s open session,
Boroujerdi added.
More than 200 lawmakers in a statement here Sunday rejected a
resolution passed by the IAEA Board of Governors regarding Iran`s
nuclear issue.
The statement was read by a member of the Majlis Presiding board,
Alireza Zakani, at the Majlis open session here today.
According to the document, the lawmakers also regretted the
improper response of the Board of Governors to Iran`s goodwill in
assuring the international community of Iran`s intent to use
nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
"They also warned the board of governors that if they continue
their present policy they cannot expect the Additional Protocol to be
ratified," added the statement.
It further said that the illegal resolution makes Iran consider
revising its policy towards continuing its obligations within the
framework of the additional protocol and letting the IAEA continue
inspections of its nuclear installations.
In addition, the lawmakers announced through the statement that
they will seriously continue working on the fuel cycle for the nuclear
power station without paying attention to such resolutions.
The statement underlined: "In case the IAEA Board of Governors
continues with its current policy, Majlis will make appropriate
decisions in response."
