Rowhani: Iran takes pride in continuing nuclear talks with EU
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Sept 19, IRNA -- Secretary of Iran`s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Hassan Rowhani said here Sunday that Iran takes pride in holding continuous talks with Europe on its nuclear issue. He added that all the relevant negotiations between Iranian diplomats and EU officials have been in line with the Islamic ruling system without any single violation of the related principles. "Iran could have reached proper accord with EU, if it were not for US pressure on Europe. However, such a promise is not totally out of question, given that Iran-EU talks have not yet been closed," he said. The official said that anytime Iran makes progress on its nuclear program with Europe, the Americans disrupt the process. Turning to the significance of the country`s nuclear dossier, he said that after the victory of the Islamic Revolution Iran has never undergone such an important case making it to face Europe, the US and other world powers. "Iran`s main objective was to prove to the world that the US allegations about Iran`s nuclear program were false and that it is mainly interested in peaceful application of nuclear technology. We have been successful to the effect up to the present day," he added. Concerning the US and Israel`s claims that `Iran is going to test nuclear bomb in six months`, he said that if they have any evidence to prove it they should show it to the board of governors. According to Rowhani, the `Parchin` issue was brought up mainly because there was no way the US could prove its claim. Rowhani referred to Iran`s nuclear case as a conflict and said that every conflict may either end up in victory or failure. He noted that so far Iran has been successful. In response to a question raised by a European reporter on whether Iran`s withdrawal from the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) does not confirm its production of atomic bomb, he said, "We have so far complied with NPT, the protocol banning nuclear weapons, and obligations regarding nuclear safeguard. "Iran has repeatedly announced that its nuclear program is merely peaceful and not military. We have never been interested in nuclear weapons." 2326/1412
