Iran will stop enrichment if not necessary: Haddad Adel
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Sept 19, IRNA -- Majlis Speaker Gholam Ali Haddad Adel here Sunday stressed that Iran would continue uranium enrichment if deemed it as necessary and will stop it if was not necessary. Talking to reporters on the recent resolution adopted by the International Atomic Energy Agency`s Board of Governors, he said an order on suspending uranium enrichment runs counter to the agency`s articles of association. "As representatives of Britain, France and Germany announced, this will not impose any obligation on Iran to suspend uranium enrichment. "What is important for Iran, is safeguarding the national interests. The IAEA cannot oblige a country to do something against its articles of association," he said. Pointing to the performance of the three European states in the Board of Governors, he added any action bears its reaction and we have complaint about the Europeans` behaviour. Asked about a statement which MPs are to issue Sunday on the Board of Governors` resolution, the speaker noted that the statement is the viewpoints of deputies and not the official stance of the Majlis. He assessed as positive the role of the Iranian delegation to the Board of Governors, saying the measures adopted by Iran`s representatives lowered the pressures. Referring to a possible joint meeting between the Majlis and cabinet, Haddad Adel said, "It is necessary that the Majlis holds a meeting with the government. "People are quite informed and will not accept any order which is against the country`s independence and the Islamic Revolution. "This resolution inflicts no damage to the people," he stressed. 2327/1432
