IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Vienna, Sept 18, IRNA -- Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mohamed ElBaradei here Friday afternoon stressed his agency would continue its close cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran." "We will continue to have a dialogue with Iran. The important thing is: Are we making progress? Are we close to have assurance that Iran`s nuclear program is exclusively for peaceful purposes? That is what we want," ElBaradei told the press on the sidelines of the meeting of the IAEA. "At this delicate stage it would be in the interest of Iran to do its utmost to create confidence, to continue suspension, going back to full suspension of its fuel cycle activities as requested by the board," he added. ElBaradei stressed that once this was achieved, this could trigger a broad political dialogue. "To me, verification of the Iranian nuclear program should be followed by a broad political dialogue. We are engaged with Iran on many transparent discussions and visits," he said. Elaborating on the intense negotiations on the EU draft resolution, the UN nuclear watchdog chief called for a "consensus resolution". "I hope for a consensus resolution. On issues like these, the board has to be fully united. Everybody is making an effort to reach a consensus," ElBaradei noted. He pointed out that the new final resolution draft, was a "good and balanced resolution". 1422/1432
