Discussions on draft resolution still going

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Vienna, Sept 17, IRNA -- The International Atomic Energy Agency
(IAEA) Board of Governors is to hold a meeting Friday afternoon amid
contradictory reports issued on agreements made by different
countries regarding the draft resolution.
Some Western media reported on Friday that the US and the
European trio have reached agreements on the draft. They also
announced that in the latest amendments made by the three European
countries, no references had been made to sending Iran`s nuclear
file to the UN Security Council.
Meanwhile, a Western diplomat told an IRNA correspondent in
Vienna that no agreement has so far been made between the US and the
European trio on the draft resolution.
Representatives of the US, Britain, France and Germany have sent
proposals on amendments to the draft resolution to their capitals and
are waiting for their final decision, the diplomat added.
He added that the US and the European trio are very likely to
reach an agreement on the draft regarding Iran`s nuclear activities.
A NAM (Non-Aligned Movement) diplomat also told IRNA that the
three European states along with Australia and the US agreed on a
certain text on Thursday evening. The text is to be submitted to the
NAM member states on Friday, he added.
Apparently, the new text does not make a reference to October 31
as a deadline for uranium enrichment by Iran or the start of the
trigger mechanisms, the NAM diplomat noted.
An English diplomat, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told
IRNA that the Europeans and the Americans have been closing in on
an agreement whereby Iran would have to suspend its enrichment
activities by the November 25th meeting of the IAEA Board of
Governors meeting.
The official said "the draft resolution is very clear. There has
to be a suspension of the uranium enrichment activity."
Asked about the controversial paragraphs 7 and 8 of the draft
resolution, he responded, "paragraphs 7 and 8 have genetically
remained the same."
