NAM: Iran's file at IAEA must be closed by November
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Vienna, Sept 13, IRNA -- Iran`s field at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Must be closed by November, said an Iranian official here on Monday. Speaking to IRNA on sidelines of the sixth IAEA Board meeting on nuclear dossiers of Iran and North Korea, spokesman of Iranian delegation to the session Hossein Moussavian said, "That is the outcome of the NAM group`s consultations at IAEA." Moussavian reiterated, "The stand would be soon incorporated into a communique, that would be distributed concurrent with the IAEA Board meeting among the participant delegations," said the envoy. Meanwhile, a Western diplomat told IRNA on condition of anonymity on sidelines of the IAEA Board of Governors meeting in Vienna on Monday that the NAM group opposed certain clauses of the European proposed draft resolution concerning Iran`s nuclear activities. The European diplomat added, "Currently, the NAM group continues consultations on the issue and are to raise it in their own meetings." The NAM states at the IAEA are often close to Iran`s positions and during the previous sessions their support has been playing a significant role in softening the tone of IAEA communiques on Iran. Meanwhile, the UN nuclear chief Mohamed ElBaradei said Monday that there was no deadline for ending an investigation into Iran`s nuclear program, even though Iran said it expects the probe to wrap up in November. "It`s an open process and we will finish when I believe we are finished," said ElBaradei, as he went into a meeting here of the UN`s IAEA, of which he is director general. The United States and Europe appeared close to agreement at the IAEA board of governors meeting over setting a deadline for Iran to allay suspicions that it is secretly making atomic weapons. Britain, France and Germany are also ready to set a November deadline for Iran to respond to concern about its nuclear program, in a draft resolution that brings the so-called Euro 3 closer to Washington`s hard line. 2329/1420
