Brussels, Sept 4, IRNA -- EU foreign ministers discussed the latest developments in the Middle East, Iraq and relations with Iran during their informal meeting in Valkenburg, The Netherlands, Friday evening. Dutch Foreign Minister Bernard Bot, whose country holds the current EU presidency, in a press conference after the meeting appealed to Iran to fully cooperate with the IAEA and made it clear that the EU Foreign ministers are united in their call on Iran to live up to its commitments in this respect. "The EU is sending out a strong signal to Iran about what it expects of the country," he said. The IAEA Board of Governors is to meet in Vienna on September 13 to discuss the UN nuclear watch dog`s latest report on Iran`s nuclear program. EU foreign ministers are expected to discuss ties with Iran again when they hold their formal monthly meeting in Brussels on September 13, said EU sources. On Iraq, Bot said the EU is committed to helping Iraq with its electoral process as well as with a training program aimed at setting up an effective administration, police force and border patrol. The EU is also committed to contributing to the UN protection force. "A few millions are lacking to establish this protection force and I appeal to all my colleagues to fill the gap," said Bot. EU ministers expressed deep concern about the Zionist regime`s decision to expand settlements in the West Bank. Referring to his recent talks with his Zionist counterpart, Shalo Shalom, the Dutch minister expressed satisfaction about the fact that the Zionist authorities not only recognize that EU involvement is needed, but also that this would be in the interest of Israel. "A failed state is in nobody`s interest," Bot underlined. NK/2321/1432
