Source says IAEA report on Iran`s nuclear program is positive
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Vienna, Sept 2, IRNA -- A diplomat who asked to remain anonymous said here Thursday that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has a positive view on Iran`s nuclear activities indicating the peaceful nature of the program. The IAEA`s secret report and was submitted to 137 member nations Wednesday night. The official who has read the dossier told IRNA the report is more positive compared to previous ones prepared the nuclear watchdog agency. An important point in the report is the reverberation of the satisfactory cooperation between Tehran and the IAEA which has implicitly referred to the peaceful nature of Iran`s nuclear program, he underlined. He said the agency has even highlighted the work preformed by its inspectors in probing Iran nuclear facilities saying "some of the issues have been finalized." This means that on the matter of Isfahan`s Uranium conversion facility the situation has been normalized wit the implications that there are no need to carry out special inspections, he said. "This facility will form now on be inspected just like others similar one in other countries." IAEA has also indicated that the assertions by Iranian official on foreign source of contamination by enriched uranium of some of the equipment is acceptable which is a further proof of Iran`s peaceful nuclear program. On the remaining ambiguities for the IAEA, he added that due to vastness of the activities the agency has not been able to announce its final views on all the outstanding issues and is awaiting further analysis and technical data, he remarked. "However, the agency has also not also not observed any unusual findings regarding the issues on which it has not yet volunteered an opinion." This statements uttered at the time when some Western media have seen the secret IAEA report and have published dubious headlines such as "Iran gets closer to producing nuclear weapons," or "Iran is determined to resume nuclear enrichment activities." The source also said these sensational reporting will not tarnish the reality of Iran`s peaceful nuclear program, "as that will become clear thorough scientific and technical analysis rather than allegations and false reports." Iran`s former representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Ali Akbar Salehi here on Wednesday predicted that Iran`s nuclear case would not be referred to the United Nations Security Council. "According to the information I have received, I predict that the next session of IAEA`s Board of Governors will not be a complicated and hot one," Salehi told IRNA. He stressed that Iran should avoid a hasty and uncalculated move, saying "We should adopt wise decisions on due time." The nuclear agency has admitted that Iran is not responsible for the contamination of some parts. The agency definitely knows that uranium enrichment has not been carried out in Iran and `we take it as a favorable decision`, said Salehi. Iran`s former representative to the UN nuclear watchdog stressed that the issue of Lavizan and P-2 (centrifuge) are considered as closed, adding that as far as technical aspects of Iran`s nuclear case is concerned, Iran has no serious discussion in this regard. The remaining issues are legal, said Salehi, adding it may be declared that the legal issues would require further study. 2324/1432
