Iran, Russia study nuclear cooperation

Moscow, July 19, IRNA -- Iran and Russia here Monday reviewed ways of 
expanding mutual cooperation on peaceful use of nuclear energy. 
Head of the Russian Federal Nuclear Energy Agency Alexander 
Rumyantsev and Iran`s Ambassador to Moscow Gholam Reza Shafei, in a 
meeting, discussed progress in the construction of Bushehr atomic 
power plant, fresh fuel for the commissioning of the plant and the 
protocol on the return of spent nuclear fuel from Iran to Russia. 
At the meeting, the two sides expressed satisfaction with the 
trend of construction of Bushehr power plant and expressed hope that 
the construction operations will be carried out on schedule. 
Rumyantsev termed Iran as a strategic partner for Russia and 
underlined the need to expand bilateral cooperation between the two 
countries. 
At the meeting, the Russian official promised to visit Tehran this
autumn, in October or November. 
During his visit to Tehran, Rumyantsev and Iranian senior 
officials are expected to discuss ways of expanding nuclear 
cooperation between Iran and Russia.
