Iran will fight terrorism in its own way: Rafsanjani

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, July 13, IRNA -- Chairman of the Expediency Council Akbar
Hashemi Rafsanjani said here Tuesday that Iran will fight terrorism
independently and cautiously.
In a meeting with the visiting Singaporean Prime Minister Goh
Chok Tong, Rafsanjani further said that the Islamic Revolution and
the system have suffered tremendously from terrorism.
"The double-faced and biased approach of the United States
towards this ominious phenomenon is not only defeating efforts to
fight it but also escalating the problem," he said.
He stressed that the terrorist group Mujahedeen is currently
sheltered by the United States and has given sufficient reason
for nations to accuse the US of dishonesty in its fight against
terrorism and not trust its slogans.
Pointing to the differences between terrorism and resistance, the
EC chairman reiterated that ignoring the absolute right of five
million Palestinian refugees cannot be ignored.
Pointing to the trend of democracy in Iran, he said all senior
officials in the country are elected by direct or indirect vote of
the people.
"Moving towards Islam is the most important achievement of our
nation because the people have risen up to reinvigorate Islamic
values and made the Islamic Revolution its base," Rafsanjani stated.
He also pointed to Iran`s economic potentials and capabilities
for investment and said "One can invest in Iran easlily and with
confidence through the approval of a law by the Expediency Council on
support for foreign investment in Iran."
"We have no fundamental problems in preparing grounds for
foreign tourists to invest in our country."
For his part, Goh outlined the political and economic
developments in Singapore and said the region has concerns over the
issue of terrorism which should be eradicated through collaboration
of regional states and forging of appropriate strategies.
An economy based on Iran`s natural resources and that based on
Singapore`s trade and investment can complement each other, the
premier noted.
Referring to the economic agreements entered into by the two
countries, he said these agreements enjoy three principles of
limited trade between the two countries, support for investment and
approval of double taxation.
He pointed to the many oil, gas, electricity and transit fields
in Iran and expressed his country`s determination to further
cooperate with Iran in these fields.
Singaporean Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong, heading a high-ranking
delegation, arrived here Sunday.
He has already held separate meetings with senior Iranian
officials including Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution,
President Mohammad Khatami, Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi, Majlis
Speaker Gholam Ali Haddad-Adel and First Vice-President Mohammad Reza
Aref.
