Iran`s plan to produce centrifuge parts, a legitimate right: FM

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, July 1, IRNA -- Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi said in Mexico
City on Wednesday Iran`s plan to produce centrifuge parts is the
country`s legitimate right in the context of the Islamic Republic`s
international commitments.
He told a joint press conference with Mexican counterpart Luis
Ernesto Derbez that Iran is determined to make peaceful use of nuclear
energy.
Since Europeans did not fulfill their commitments to help close
the file of Iran`s nuclear activities with the International Atomic
Energy Agency (IAEA), therefore Tehran has no commitment with regards
to cessation of production of centrifuge parts, he added.
All Iran`s nuclear activities are under IAEA supervision, he said
adding that Tehran is determined to continue its cooperation with the
agency.
On Iraq, he expressed his pleasure with transfer of power to
Iraqis and referred to it as a step forward to Iraqi national
sovereignty.
The new government has not been elected by people, he said
stressing that the interim government has a great responsibility to
pave the way for democratic elections.
Tehran will cooperate with the new government as it did with the
Iraqi Governing Council (IGC), Kharrazi said adding that cooperation
will continue with the new government to draw up new Iraqi
Constitution and hold democratic elections.
Urging the United Nations to help Iraq, the Iranian foreign
minister expressed the hope that elections will be held in due time.
The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to play key role as Iraq`s
neighboring state, he added.
On possibility of continuation of conflicts in Iraq, he said
Tehran is not concerned over such matters inside Iraq.
"Iraqis are brave and intelligent people and have repeatedly
proved this," he said adding that they have "great politicians and
religious leaders" who are capable of solving the existing problems
through unity and solidarity.
"The unity of the Iraqi people will benefit the entire world",
Kharrazi stated.
Terming his talks with senior Mexican officials as constructive
and fruitful, he said both Iran and Mexico are two developing
countries which hold independent diplomatic and international stand.
Meanwhile, Derbez said that both Iran and Mexico are interested in
expansion of all-out bilateral cooperation.
Mexican President Vincent Fox Quesada has invited his Iranian
counterpart President Mohammad Khatami to visit Mexico, he announced
adding that the visit will pave the way for expansion of bilateral
ties.
Tehran-Mexico City political, economic and cultural cooperation
was discussed during several meetings held between Mexican officials
and the Iranian delegation, he noted.
Kharrazi, heading a delegation arrived in Mexico on Monday on
an official visit.
Kharrazi will then proceed to Cuba to discuss expansion of
Tehran-Havana relations as well as regional and international
developments with senior Cuban officials.
