IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Moscow, June 29, IRNA -- The UN nuclear watchdog Chief Mohamed ElBaradei said Tuesday that Bushehr nuclear power plant is not of international concern, saying the plant is a matter of bilateral relations between Iran and Russia. Speaking after talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, ElBaradei told reporters that the construction of Bushehr nuclear power plant was not raised in his talks with the Russian president. Bushehr nuclear power plant is a bilateral project between Iran and Russia and is not at the top of international concern, said ElBaradei, adding Bushehr is a project aimed at producing peaceful nuclear energy. "The spent nuclear fuel will be returned to Russia according to an agreement signed between the two countries," he stressed concluding, "Therefore, it is not a matter of international concern." In a meeting with the UN nuclear watchdog chief, Putin attached importance to the role played by the International Atomic Energy Agency. Describing as positive the measures adopted by the IAEA, Putin said that the agency is free from any political tendency. ElBaradei is in Moscow since Saturday for a four-day official visit to hold talks with senior Russian officials and take part in a conference of nuclear power. Earlier in a joint press conference with head of Russian Atomic Energy Agency Alexander Rumyantsev, ElBaradei called as quite peaceful Iran`s nuclear program. He underscored the official statements issued by the Islamic Republic of Iran are quite in accordance with its nuclear program. 1405/2322/1432
