US, EU 'Disturbed' Over Iranian Nuclear Plans

The United States and the European Union are "disturbed" by Iran's announcement that it plans to resume production of centrifuge parts and have called on Tehran to rethink its decision.

The joint statement was issued Saturday in Ireland after talks between President Bush and European leaders.

Iran agreed last year to suspend enrichment activities as an international confidence-building measure. The centrifuge parts could be used to enrich nuclear fuel.

International Atomic Energy Agency chief Mohammed ElBaradei said he also hopes Iran will go back to a full suspension.

In Washington Thursday, top Bush administration official John Bolton said Iran's nuclear weapons program should be referred to the U.N. Security Council because it is a threat to international peace and security.
