No alteration in Iran`s peaceful nuclear program: Kharrazi
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, June 12, IRNA -- Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi here Saturday gave assurance that there is no alteration in Iran`s peaceful nuclear program, stressing Tehran will not accept any new commitment in this regard. "We will not make any new commitment and the Europeans should act upon their commitment. The failure of this project is the failure of everyone," he told foreign and domestic reporters. "Success will be achieved only through tripartite cooperation between Iran, the Europeans and the (International Atomic Energy) Agency. "Cooperation is a two-way road. This cooperation will be bolstered when the sides keep up their promises and pave the ground for further confidence-building," he added. Kharrazi stressed, "We did our utmost in cooperation. Only minor issues are left and the spirit of cooperation should not been damaged by further insistence on these minor issues." "Peaceful use of nuclear energy is our absolute right and Tehran will not give up this right at all." "Signing the additional protocol and allowing IAEA inspections are merely aimed at proving Iran`s peaceful nature of nuclear activities and that there is no alteration in our nuclear program," the minister said. "We act transparently and are regretful that a lot of time is spent on very minor issues under the US pressures. This is not consistent with the spirit of Iran`s cooperation with the IAEA and other European states." Kharrazi once more insisted on Iran`s rights and expressed Iran`s readiness to prove transparency in its programs and build more confidence. He said there is no legal obstacle for activities on sites and facilities in the central cities of Arak and Isfahan because it is within the framework of Iran-IAEA safeguard. "Closing down these two centers is an extra demand and we will not accept it because it runs against our legitimate rights," the minister said. "No one can decide for Iran to leave its peaceful nuclear program," Kharrazi stressed. The IAEA`s board of governors is scheduled to discuss Iran`s nuclear program in Vienna on Monday. 2327/1423
