Rowhani: Iran`s suspension of uranium enrichment aims to attract confidence of world community
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, June 2, IRNA -- Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Hassan Rowhani here Wednesday stressed that Iran suspended its uranium enrichment process voluntarily to attract further confidence of the world community. Speaking to a number of Iranian and foreign reporters, he underlined that suspension of uranium does not produce any legal commitment for Iran and added that the suspension would continue as long as required. Turning to enrichment of uranium as Iran`s definite and legal right, he noted that no organization could deprive the country from it. "In the last meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency`s (IAEA) board of governors, the US and two other countries had a hostile approach towards Iran, while others either supported it or displayed a more moderate attitude," he added. Referring to IAEA report of Tuesday evening, he noted that the countries supporting the US should notice that Iran`s nuclear file is not a critical issue and that the problems remaining to be solved are conventional technical ones. In response to a query raised by an Arab reporter about the alleged secret agreements reached between Iran and US on ending or avoiding further tension over Iran`s nuclear case, he said that the 20-page IAEA report proves that the case is not likely to prolong. "The P-2 centrifuges and pollution are the only two key issues to IAEA. The agency has announced that once the two specified matters are clarified, we can assure the world community about Iran`s nuclear program. "Iran has taken the necessary steps in connection with P-2 and IAEA needs time to examine Iran`s recently submitted report on it," he added. Putting the nuclear pollution rate in Iran earlier noticed by IAEA inspectors at 54 percent, he said that it is associated with the imported parts. He underlined that the issue of nuclear pollution has already been settled. Referring to the current rate of nuclear pollution at 36 percent, he said that if IAEA inspectors examine more spare parts, this would also be solved. He referred to the remarks of IAEA chief Mohammad ElBaradei that the agency has no evidence on application of nuclear technology for non-peaceful and military purposes by Iran and said that he has repeatedly confirmed the peaceful nature of Iran`s nuclear activity. Rowhani once more underlined that there is no question about the peaceful nature of Iran`s nuclear program. "Besides IAEA regulations indicate the cases in which the military nuclear programs should be referred to UN Security Council. "The agency may know the origin of the imported parts responsible for pollution. ElBaradei`s report underlines several times the urge for the third party`s cooperation with IAEA on the issue of pollution," he added. Replying to an Arab reporter`s question about Iran`s reaction if the US continues to politicize its nuclear issue, Rowhani said that given the US exaggerates trivial issues, it cannot tell the truth to the public opinion. Turning to the commitment of the European states towards Iran, he said that according to the agreement reached between Iran and three EU member states in the meeting held in Tehran last February, they should take some measures in June. "We shall witness Europe`s compliance with its commitments in the current month," he concluded. 2326/1771
