Quake destroys over 90pc of Bam quarter

Kerman, Dec 27, IRNA -- The killer earthquake in the southeastern 
city of Bam destroyed over 90 per cent of the city`s historic 
quarter, said Managing Director of Kerman Cultural Heritage 
Department Fakour Pass here Saturday. 
A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 degrees on the 
Richter scale rocked the city of Bam in the southeastern province 
of Kerman early Friday, killing thousands of people and 
injuring tens of thousands of others. 
Talking to IRNA, the official said several teams from the 
provincial cultural heritage department have been dispatched to 
the region to investigate the case and offer assistance.
