90 percent of buildings in Bam completely destroyed

Kerman, Dec 26, IRNA -- Devastating and killer quake in Kerman has destroyed some 90 percent of the buildings in the city of Bam, it was nnounced on Friday. According to IRNA reporter in the city the number of victims and injured civilian is very high. Since about 70 percent of the houses in the city were made of bricks, many citizens have been trapped under fallen debris, said the report. Many relief workers have rushed to the city for rescue operations. Army helicopters are now actively conducting flights to help the victims of the devastating quake. The strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 on the open-ended Richter scale rocked the city of Bam in Kerman province at 5:28 hour local time (0158 GMT) on Friday. Several aftershocks, at least one up to 5.3 degrees on Richter scale, hit the quake-stricken city of Bam after the 6.3-degree quake rocked the city. MM/211 End
