Salehi: Most IAEA board members welcome Iran`s confidence building
IRNA
Vienna, Nov 26, IRNA -- Iran`s Ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Ali-Akbar Salehi said here on Wednesday that most members of the IAEA board of governors had welcomed Iran`s efforts to build up global confidence. Salehi told IRNA after the end of the IAEA board meeting that Tehran had taken giant strides over the past one month and many countries had welcomed the new development by Iran. He said the IAEA board resolution shows efforts by all countries engaged in the issue and it is the result of all the efforts which incorporates decisions of all states. As for timing of the NPT additional protocol`s signing, Salehi said the move deserves to follow its due course and it would fall within framework of agreements between Iran and the IAEA Chief. South Africa, Cuba, China, Italy, Brazil, and Malaysia supported the board resolution at its Wednesday meeting, raising positive views on Iran. The US, South Korea, the Netherlands and Canada, however, tried at the meeting to exaggerate and magnify negative aspects of ElBaradei`s report. Russian envoy in an address supported Iran and said the resolution lacks necessary balance, not incorporating the important conclusion of ElBaradei, that there is no evidence that Iran`s nuclear program is non-peaceful. He said Iran`s nuclear case should be followed more professionally and not to be turned into a political issue. 216/214 End
